7/7/24 Jesus Heals the Man With Demons
Scripture: Mark 5:1-20
Preacher: Bro. Eric Mallet
- We are spiritual beings having an earthly experience
- Gen. 2:7, 1 These 5:23
- Hospital experience is coming to the house of the Lord
- The man was tormented
- Some may be in helpless and desolate like the man. He saw himself as beyond help
- The man’s identity was lost because of the pain he was going through
- v.6 Jesus arrival creates a radical change
- The demons recognized Jesus’s authority and Jesus saw the man’s worth
- That acknowledgement helped the man find his dignity
- Jesus engaged the man by asking for his name. Jesus sees the man as individual.
- That moment is the profound human connection amidst the chaos.
- Jesus commands the demons to leave granting the man freedom from his torrent. The man’s true identity is not from his afflictions but from what God is doing in his life
- Some of us after being free go back to the torment
- The man’s image after healing: His dignity is restored, clothed and in his right mind
- He can see himself as a whole and valued person
- He can reintegrate into the community no longer being an outcast. He’s healed to become a witness
- When you are delivered by the Lord he’s delivering you so you can never be caged again
- There is value beyond your circumstance. Our worth and image is not defined by our circumstances and past.
- You have to say what you are free from. If you don’t identify and remind of what we are free from we slowly get back to our lifestyle
